Michael Nyiri has been taking photographs since the early 1970s. He specializes in nature and sky pictures, specifically cloudscapes and architecture. He photographs the city of Los Angeles and the South Bay area of Southern California, where he lives. Currently approaching the age of 62, he has been seeing the world through a lens for most of his life. Using first a Kodak Instamatic then a Yashica 35mm film camera in his youth, and graduating to a Sony Cybershot and Olympus digital camera, he recently began using his first DSLR, a Canon Rebel 5ti.
Besides photography, Michael has been “MikeVideo” for over 30 years, shooting and editing video films first on Beta tape in the 80s and now digital “internet movies” which he displays on his YouTube Channel. He writes short stories, memoirs, and poetry. He also draws and is a collector of cartoon memorabilia.
Michael plans to retire from professional life at the age of 67, then travel the world, taking his ever present camera with him. A friend once asked him if he ever went anywhere without his camera, and he had to answer in the negative. When complimented on any shot he happens to have taken, he’s apt to reply: “God and Mother Nature provide the scenery. I’m just glad to be in the right place at the right time with a camera!”
